Academics at L.I.F.E. Academy
The Goodwill L.I.F.E. Academy curriculum is designed to help youth and young adults with developmental disabilities as they begin the transition into
post-school life. Our program fulfills the educational needs of Special Diploma Option 1 students.
The school's curriculum is based on the Unique Learning System, a program based on years of classroom experience, teacher input, and study of effective learning strategies for students with significant disabilities. Our students don't just learn "lessons." Instead, they uncover concepts within thematic educational units, which serve as a launching point for academic lessons.
The Unique Learning System curriculum was designed to align with the Florida Alternative Assessment, which measures the success of students with intellectual disabilities
Each L.I.F.E. Academy student receives instruction and services based on his or her Individual Education Plan, or IEP. In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the goal of our program is the incorporation of an individualized, functional life-skills and vocational program.
